The Sheriff's car pulled up in my driveway, which was strange, I thought, since I hadn't done anything illegal. A huge, burly guy stepped out of the car, expressionless; this heat made him and me both uncomfortable.
I opened the screen door, feeling the breath knocked out of my lungs, so it seemed, and walked out on my porch to find a bumble bee swarming in front of my face. The officer was around 30 or so, compared to my 50 years of grace. In his hand, he carried an envelope that was clearly some kind of paper, a legal form maybe. As he handed me the envelope, he looked at me with eyes that told me he, too thought this was ridiculous to be serving me papers that were debts unpaid; when so many people out there were committing crimes that would warrant arrest.
Good Six!
