In spite of all the grief, Bill knew he had to keep going. The first step in the process was to talk to Casey. There was so much to explain to her. After his talk with Casey, he planned to return to Jamaica. There, he would tell his wife and surviving child the devastating news of Cork's passing.
"Is there somewhere we can talk?" Bill asked. "Yes," Casey said, holding her hand out in the direction of the kitchen. They both walked in the direction of the smell of the chocolate cookies Casey was cooking in the oven. Bill inhaled the yummy aroma of the cookies. He hoped Casey would offer him one or two when they were done. Right now, they both found a seat at the table. So, Bill says, "I guess you are wondering why you had a visit from your father." "Wait, how did you know about that?" Casey asked. That's when Bill began telling her about his work for the Secret Service. He explained it was at the lab where he was employed. An experiment that went horribly wrong had released a virus that could affect the surrounding areas of the lab. The thing was, this strain of bacteria would only affect females. First, it would start with a coma-like trance. Casey gasped. She thought, That is why I woke up in bed the next morning. It was as if I had a dream of my father's visit. This virus would also explain the tragedy of Corky's sudden death. But Casey still had a question. If Bill knew this, then why did he leave his daughter at home? The rest of their family was in Jamaica. It's like Bill could read her mind. He began telling Casey how he tried to protect his family by taking them to another country. This was a trip his daughter was going to go on. He got into an argument with his daughter after many attempts to convince her to go. He lost the fight in the end. So he told Corky she could stay home under one stipulation. She was to always carry the key he would give her...everywhere.
Bill said, "I thought the key would protect her and her friend, Cammy. I was wrong," he said with a heaviness of grief clearly displayed on his face. Bill began his defense, "The visit from your father at midnight was necessary to keep you protected from the virus. My lab, he went on to say, created two ways that would ensure protection. The protection was to be by the key and hypnosis." Bill paused. "Unfortunately, the key didn't work. Fortunately, in your father's case, hypnosis worked on you." That explains me waking up in bed the next morning," Casey said. My father had hypnotized me,' she thought.
HOW AND WHY THE VIRUS WAS CREATED
Both Bill and Casey sat there in silence. Casey was thinking how unfortunate it was for Corky. Furthermore, she felt compassion for Bill and his family. Bill had to travel back to Jamaica. He needed to deliver the news to his wife and other child. Little did he know the news had already been delivered to his wife. His wife was at the moment trying to get in touch with him. To summarize the creation of the virus was created as a cure for heart disease. After many attempts and tests, a cure was eventually discovered. Corky was lost in the process of finding a cure, which was an extremely tragic event. However, her brother was saved several years later. The foundation for the cure was named after Corky Sullivan. Her memory will be saved. In turn, she is named after a cure that will save many lives.

It sounds complicated, but it all works out. I'm glad they honored Corky.
ReplyDeleteI wonder what could make it less complicated. 😍👍
